Hello all:
My thoughts when the harps and handbells began to play:
Yes, Virginia, there is a God.
How else explain this beauty, in this place, at this time?
Forty seniors, thirty elementary school children, and no fidgeting!
Hi Virginia,
What a fabulous performance the Harp Songs of the Blue Ridge Ensemble accompanied by Nancy Van Zant on the Hand Bells, put on yesterday! I can’t tell you how much holiday joy your entourage brought to the seniors. The effort you, the performers and their parents, put into the performance did not go unnoticed by the audience.
Reflecting back this morning, there were many intangible benefits resulting from concert that I had not thought about. It was one of unification. It provided a forum to publicly recognize those members of the community who have done so much to make the senior program successful. Secondly, it helped perpetuate the image that, as someone stated last week, “RVCC is fast becoming the hub of action in the Rockfish Valley.”
Thirty seniors from RVCC and 14 from the Nelson Center were present. All together, I estimate the attendance to have been ~120 to 130.
We look forward to booking your entire entourage for a fourth appearance in December 2010.
Oh, my dear, Virginia! What an elegant concert! It was so exciting and fulfilling to see you and your fabulous students.
Thank you, Virginia, for sharing your own special talent with us, in addition to your students'. You know how much I love "Somewhere in Time." It has such special significance to me. I listen to your award-winning CD all the time and enjoyed so much seeing/hearing you play it live.
It is such a wonderful service you offer to the area, teaching so many of us to enjoy and appreciate the harp. We likely would not have had the experience otherwise. You also teach us so much of the history of the harp(s) and share all the golden harps with us. Never would we have had that opportunity. Thank you for that, Virginia!
Love,
LA
Dear Virginia,
The Harps of Gold concert was just glorious. It was perfect in every detail ... the music, the costumes, the harps, the voices. It was so beautifully choreographed.
Having Howard talk about a harp and then hearing that harp played was so delightful and so much better than hearing a description of all the harps and then hearing them all played.
I loved the way Harp Song of the Blue Ridge processed into the church with their bells, and I loved the individual introductions to the songs. And what a nice idea to have your newer students sit in for one piece. (Arlo is adorable and exactly as you described him)
The music was all absolutely beautiful. How courageous of your students to play with such poise and confidence in front of such an enormous crowd. And how wonderful to end with everyone singing America!
Well done, my dear friend. I hope you are bursting with pride and floating on air.
